First of all, it is not uncommon for men to wear makeup specially in the acting, beauty, and fashion industry. Putting on makeup for editorial photo shoots is a must to make it easier for the photographer to retouch. Not only that, male models need to look very 3 Dimensional to make them look chiseled, tanner, or very matte (oily skin can reflect too much light) and doesn't look good in magazines. These male models are used to wearing makeup, and are very conscious about touching their face. They have makeup artist and other people wiping their sweat for them in between clicks of the camera. Film making also magnifies the actors' skin 100x specially on tight takes so they really need to pile on the makeup to withstand all the lights, the cameras, and the heat. Without makeup, they will tend to look very pale and flat.
Makeup artists like me have to exaggerate these models jaw lines, cleft chins, nose lines, and cheekbones to make them look more high fashion and more model-esque when walking down the runway or posing for photo shoots.

I have always been a fan of Shu Uemura's Eyelash curler. For those of you who use Shu as well would know that new ones would take some time to get used to since the rubber is still stiff. But nonetheless, the best! Years ago, before Shu Uemura gave away those extra rubbers in their boxes, you had to buy a new lash curler each time. Which was basically a waste of money because even though the curler itself was in perfect working condition, you had to discard it because the rubber was already torn. I was about to discard my 3rd Shu curler back in 2008 that's why I had to find a new lash curler that produced the same perfectly curled lashes that it gave. That's when I discovered Fanny Serrano's lash curler. At first, all I saw from the FS counter were the black rubber thingies that you can insert in the Shu Uemura eyelash curler. Until the beauty consultant introduced me to "Tita Fanny's" curler. They worked just like Shu's and it had the same dimension and design. I still have my Shu Uemura though (I am feeling a bit sentimental about throwing it away), but I also use FS eyelash curler. Some people go off running in the other direction once they hear the word "contour". A lot of women can benefit from contouring when it is done right and in the right places. You do not have to completely alter your face to make you look stick thin, that would only make you look ridiculous.
In our line of work, contouring is crucial so that the model, bride, or celebrity will have dimension on camera or on tv. Otherwise, they will just look flat because of the harsh lights. I have always been so obsessed about having well defined eyebrows. Ever since makeup school, my guru at CAS, Ms. Jen Delica, told me that even by just having well-groomed, well-shaped eyebrows can really make your look. Clients usually ask me if I really need to put product on their eyebrows and my answer is always "of course!".
Having well defined eyebrows will make them look well-groomed which ever angle you are being photographed so it's really crucial in makeup application to have great shaped eyebrows! During your wedding photos (or when you go out on a formal event), you take lots of photos whether by your professional photographer or your friends. Having well shaped brows lift and brightens your face and really makes your makeup look put very well together. Check the 2 photos above, whether you are being photographed frontal or profile, the eyebrows give a lot of character to any look. Perhaps you love the concept of airbrush but you don't want to pay an awful lot to purchase the tools, equipment, and makeup to achieve the effect. Luckily, you don't have to! We can mimic that flawless airbrush finish by just using what's in your makeup bag.
What you will need: 1. LIQUID FOUNDATION 2. CREAM BLUSH 3. KABUKI BRUSH 4. LOOSE POWDER (TO SET) I made a new discovery... Last January 16, my family was to take me out to lunch for my birthday. I wanted to look really nice but I didn't have any good foundations (yes, I don't have any for myself) that gave full coverage. I always buy tinted moisturizers and Maybelline's BB cream. But this was a special day, I wanted to look really nice on my birthday. So on the morning of my birthday, I rushed to Landmark on a quest to buy the perfect foundation that didn't feel heavy on my skin (since I am not used to wearing lots of makeup). My first stop was L'Oreal. I have seen Jigs Mayuga use True Match foundation so this is the first line that I tried on me. The sales people were really helpful so I didn't have a heard time finding the perfect shade. I am acidic so I had to get a shade that was about half a shade lighter than my real skin color, but same tone. After about trying 2 shades of the True Match, I wasn't happy. So I moved on to trying White Perfect Pearl Foundation. Hmm... I wasn't impressed at first because I thought that it looked too white on me and that the tone was off. So I left the counter with half of my face covered with L'Oreal's White Perfect Pearl foundation in Golden Beige (G3). I didn't bother taking it off because I wanted to see it in natural light. Next stop was Revlon. I have heard a lot of great feedback about Revlon's PhotoReady foundation so I decided to try it out. The sales girl recommended that I try NUDE. But when I applied it, the tone was on the orange side so I looked tan in some way. I wasn't happy. All the other shades were either too ashy or too tan for me so I left the counter feeling a little bit sad... I have heard so much talk that sea sponges are great for makeup application. So when I came across one in Watson's, I got myself 2 packs to try since it was on sale from PhP 57.75 to PhP 45.00. They say that it gives great coverage and doesn't absorb that much makeup product.
My mom and I went to SM Makati today so I can buy a new toner. Of course, I couldn't go to SM without looking around for new products! Mom was in Elianto for a while trying on lipstick after lipstick so I decided to look at their new products. That's when I discovered the BB Balm, and their Natural Mineral Finishing Powder.
I hate pimples! I really don't like waking up to one and when I do, I have to resist the temptation of popping it or drying it out with toothpaste! The worst thing you can do to pimples is popping them or scratching it. Pimples could be either painful or itchy. It can either have an "eye" or just a red bump. The best thing to do is really care for them. They take about 3-4 days to clear, but when they do, the battle isn't over. You have nasty acne scars and marks to deal with. 2 Fridays ago, I was on an outdoor shoot where we were under the sun for about 3 hours. I seeked shelter under the shade of a huge tree for about half the time but when I got home, I found that some parts of my face darkened, and parts of my legs and arms as well. I looked like a dalmatian! I figured that it would go away in time but it really wasn't nice to look at.
I did some reading and the only way to stop my skin from further darkening was to use whitening products because these products control melanin production which darken the skin when you have been exposing yourself in UV in long periods of time. I have always been afraid of these products because I was afraid to look white-pink or even gray! So that's why I avoided whitening lotions and soaps at all cost. |
