I have heard so much talk that sea sponges are great for makeup application. So when I came across one in Watson's, I got myself 2 packs to try since it was on sale from PhP 57.75 to PhP 45.00. They say that it gives great coverage and doesn't absorb that much makeup product.
The first thing I did was cut them up so I can make pieces that are more manageable. They are not very hard to cut up and they don't crumble so I like that part.
After doing so, I wet it under cool running water. You have to wet it since it feels rough and a little bit hard so you have to soften it with water. The sponge softened up but it still felt rough though.
I applied a small amount of liquid foundation on the sponge and it didn't get absorbed right away.
When I applied it on my face though, it felt like I was scrubbing my face to exfoliate (which we don't want unless we're really exfoliating).
The finish really is nice but repeated rubbing of the sponge on my face hurt me. And one of my rules in makeup is that "Makeup should never hurt you". The end result of the application was really nice. My face was smoother so the foundation really stuck to my skin really well.
When you first apply it though, it leaves lines on your face so you really have to smooth it out with repeated wiping motions which can hurt you.
I am not sure if I got the right sea sponge or there is only one kind. But if this is the only type there is out there, then I wouldn't recommend it. I'll just have to keep my lookout for another kind of sea sponge.
